WTC 2008 - IT'S OUR 40th ANNIVERSARY |

An amateur theatre group in Werribee was an idea proposed by members of a local book club and with great enthusiasm their first production was a one-act play performed for the Werribee Lions Club at the Centenary Hall (now redeveloped as the Wyndham Cultural Centre) The play “Festival Nightmare”was directed by Mr. Jan Tulen, in 1968. In November 1968 the first full length play “Fool's Paradise“ was performed for the general public in the Methodist Church Hall (since demolished) and directed by Joan Pearson. With Joan and Jan heading a very active committee the next twelve shows, over four years were held at the Masonic Hall, Synnot St, Werribee. Directors during this time were Peter Ross, Joan Pearson and Vin Foster. Diggers Road Hall was the venue for their first melodrama“Only an Orphan Girl” directed by Pamela Tulen (wife of Jan), and “And the Big Men Fly” with Ian O’Neill from

Major achievements have been the writing and performance of two Australian melodramas 'Blush—or Dirty Doings at the Diggings' and 'Terror Australis Rusticana'. Pamela Tulen co-ordinated the script writing and also directed both of these very popular shows. In 1988 we performed “Terror Australis “ at the Albury Civic Centre for Rotary District Conference. From time to time we have collaborated with the Werribee Music Society to produce musicals, including 'Brig-o-doon', 'South Pacific','Oh What a Lovely War’ and 'Anything Goes' Junior Theatre has been part of the Company when directors have been available. It's been quite a journey with a few stumbles on the way. In 40 years the company has put on 115 productions included 2200 cast and crew,entertained 21,000 local residents and invested nearly some $400,000 locally in the productions and most importantly had a lot of fun along the way.
