The company will accomplish its mission by:
To ensure that our goals remain fresh and relevant, we will review and re-affirm our Mission Statement each year at the time of our Annual General Meeting.
The Werribee Theatre Company has a rich history in Wyndham spanning 41 years .
Originally the idea of an amateur theatre group in Werribee was an idea proposed by members of a local book club. Their first production was a one-act play performed for the Werribee Lions Club at the Centenary Hall (now redeveloped as the Wyndham Cultural Centre) The play “Festival Nightmare” was directed by Mr. Jan Tulen, in 1968.
Since then the company has put on 117 productions included 2200 cast and crew, entertained 21,000 local residents and invested around $400,000 locally in the productions and most importantly had a lot of fun along the way.
From 1974 our “home” was the theatre at Werribee Park. We shared the dressing room with possums but the theatre was comfortable and had a great atmosphere. The patrons were often treated to a sherry on arrival, and encouraged to buy the usual raffle ticket.
The loss of Werribee Park as a venue was a blow to the Company, but the newly built Tattersall's Theatre in the Wyndham Cultural Centre was an exciting addition to Werribee and opened up new oppurtunities for the company. The Theatre Company contributed to the establishment of the Green Room and had the privilege of holding the first full production in the Theatre. “Jesus Christ— Superstar”. We have since performed most of our productions in the Tattersall's theatre.
Like most theatre companies we have had our ups and downs but have always been encouraged by the support from both past members and Wyndham Shire which has seen us thru those difficult times. With the ongoing support of the community we will continue to bring you entertaining productions.
Thankyou to the people of Wyndham and those members past and present who have given freely of their time and passion for amateur theatre. We have a long history and while we can look back at the past 40+ years achievements with pride we can also look forward to WTC continuing to contribute to the performing arts in Wyndham.
